What is overpressure and its significance?

Overpressure is one of the methods of sevoflurane induction. It involves a primed circuit with sevoflurane 8 % with high fresh gas flow with the patient taking vital capacity breaths. LMA insertion as early as 2.5 to 3 min and surgical plane in 5 min with this method has been published . Modification includes the addition of nitrous oxide. A method called "coasting" is described where the inhalational is switched off and low flow is used. Here the agent is recirculated in the circuit utilising the property of minimal metabolism. Alternative techniques include tidal volume induction, target controlled induction etc
