Why there is early consumption of canister during low flow anaesthesia as the amount of co2 in exhaled is constant per breathe
TQ sir/madam
In case of a closed or a semi closed circuit, the excess flow ( i.e say the patient consumes 350 ml/ min of O2 and gives off 300 ml/min of CO2 and say the flow is 1000 ml/min) is scavenged through AGSS. This scavenged gas contains a mixture of expired and fresh gas. So the amount of CO2 reaching the sodalime is less. In case of low flows, less or no gas is scavenged. Hence the CO2 load delivered to the soadalime is more.
